Pair of officer's pistols.Finely engraved plates signed by Cassaignard in Nantes, "Maître Arquebusier du Roy". Swan-necked dogs decorated with foliage. Golden dog screw. Iron basins.
Blued barrels, decorated with golden garlands wrapping along their entire length. Silver grain forming a handlebar in the center of a radiant sun. Long barrel mount in selected walnut, elegantly carved to emphasize the recesses.
Solid silver fittings profusely carved with floral motifs and trophies. Cap decorated with a portrait. Wand made of whalebone and bone. Period: mid-18th century.
Cassaignard (or Cassagnard): arquebusier and furrier from Nantes born in 1708 and died in 1786. Renowned as a supplier of weapons to the navy.
