"The Deposition Of Christ. Flemish School From The 17th Century"
Oil on copper Beautiful molded blackened wooden frame (old) Total dimensions: 46.5 x 52.5 cm. Copper alone: 28 x 34.5 cm Our painting is a work of private devotion and represents the deposition of Christ, a very popular iconographic theme in painting and sculpture which takes place just after the crucifixion on Mount Golgotha. Saint John supports Christ with the Virgin and Mary Magdalene holds his hand. The composition is built in a green landscape at dusk with other characters, perhaps Joseph of Arimathea standing, in green, pointing to the sky? We see a very Antwerp style and the hand of a painter close to Pieter van Lint (Antwerp 1609-1690). This artist having traveled to Italy, his works are inspired by his stay in Rome. Very good state of conservation, the colors have retained extreme freshness. Sold with certificate
