The panel alone: 37 x 32 cm Gortzius Geldorp, was born in 1553 in Louvain and died in 1616 in Cologne, Flemish history painter and portrait painter, he was trained in the studio of Frans Francken I and later of Frans Pourbus l 'Ancien (leading portrait painter in Flanders). Frans Francken I and Frans Pourbus the Elder were both pupils of Frans Floris, the main Renaissance painter in Antwerp. Geldorp will be court painter to the Duke of Terra Nova, Carlo d'Aragona Tagliavia, whom he accompanied on his travels. He traveled to Cologne with the Duke who was participating in the peace negotiations with the Dutch Republic. Geldorp remained in the city while remaining a companion to the Duke on his travels. He became a successful portrait painter with many commissions from the aristocracy and prominent patrons. Good state of conservation. Sold with invoice & certificate
