"Winter Landscape With Skaters. Andries Vermeulen (1763-1814)"
Oil on canvas Presented in a Dutch style frame in guilloche wood, molded and blackened Total dimensions: 62 x 75 cm Our painting is a work of the Dutch painter Andries Vermeulen born in Dordrecht in 1763. Pupil of his father, Cornelis Vermeulen. He was primarily a landscape painter. He worked for some time in Amsterdam, where he died in 1814. Winter scenes reached their peak in the Dutch Golden Age. By focusing on the representations of snow and cold, it is possible to see if there is a link between these paintings and the climate of the time, or even a concomitance between the real and painted types of winter. The success of these winter scenes helping, it appears that many painters ignored the climate of the time and made winter genre scenes, to the point of creating a real imagery. The horizon is drawn in the first third of the composition and the cloudy blue sky takes on all its importance mingling with the frozen trees. On an ice-covered river that stretches towards a village with a mill, children skate while pushing a small cart. On the shore, peasants and cattle walk along. Good state of conservation. Sold with invoice & certificate.
