This painting with a wood gatherer in the winter forest was executed in 1887 by Emil Heinrich (Henri) Gogarten (1850 in Linz on the Rhine - 1911 Munich). He was a German landscape painter and representative of symbolism. Gogarten studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf under Oswald Achenbach and with his support from 1874 to 1877 in Paris.
