"“marine In Brittany” Henri Barnoin (1882 - 1940)"
Henri Barnoin (1882 - 1940) marine painter Student of Luc-Olivier Merson, he especially owes to Émile Dameron, his second master, his taste for anecdotal landscapes which he generally enlivens with peasant crowds: fishermen and boats, rocky coasts and processions, it is the entire repertoire of folkloric Brittany which nourishes his work. Since 1909, he has also exhibited seascapes and watercolor views of Paris at the Salon. A work which obviously does not err on the side of excess originality but which, in its serenity and its well-assured technique, is the faithful mirror of the painter's fervor for daily Breton life. It is very present in public collections in Brittany (museums of Quimper, Concarneau, Le Faouët, Vannes, etc.) and also often in exhibitions devoted to concrete painting.
