"Chryselephantine Art Deco By F.parpan"
Chryselephantine art deco of sumptuous elegance. The bronze with an “olive” patina contrasts well with the ivory. The child Jesus, as an attached piece, bears the mark of time on the side, the statue is supplied with its original marble base, also with its scars and which may not be used, the Madonna is doing wonderfully without it. To find out more: Ferdinand Parpan, French sculptor (1902-2004) After frequenting the Place des Voges in the 1920s, Parpan began working as an engraver. In the 1930s, inspired by the Art Deco sculptor Dardé, he began sculpting on wood and stone. He soon held his first exhibition on Avenue Victor-Hugo in 1936 and was encouraged by the sale of several pieces. His work was interrupted by the war. Resuming his passion after the Liberation in 1944, Parpan took a workshop on rue du Retrait in Paris with the sculptor Louis Roy. While undertaking several public commissions to replace works destroyed during the war, he became intrigued by the aesthetics of religious art and the reverence it evoked, and decided to adapt certain aspects in his own work to parallel modernist respect for the purity of forms. This development defined the future of his work and received universal recognition. It is this sort of characteristic elegance and refinement of form that perfectly defines his works. From 1947, Parpan exhibited widely in Parisian fairs such as the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne, the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture, the Salon d'Asnières, the Salon de L'Art Libre, the Salon des Artistes French. In 1950, he was named president of the Salon des Indépendants. The same year, a major personal exhibition of his work was organized at the Grande Galerie, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, which established his name. The artist continued an international career, with notable exhibitions in 1954 in Saarbrücken, Germany; 1956 Metz, France; 1957Strasbourg; 1958 Bernheim Gallery, Paris; 1964 Henquez Gallery; 1970 Rodin Museum, Paris; 1987 Society of Fine Arts, Los Angeles; 1990 Ato Gallery, Tokyo; 1995 Soufer Gallery, New York. He was also honored with several major awards including in 1965 the Honorary Prize for Sculpture; 1972 Medalist of the City of Paris; 1991 European Sculpture Grand Prix. In 2000, a permanent exhibition of his work was inaugurated at the Vaz-Obervaz Museum, Switzerland. The artist's work is represented in various Modern Art museums including the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
