"Botanist's Microscope, France, C. 1850"
Simple botanist's hand microscope, France, circa 1850. The instrument is not signed. It is made of turned blackened wood and brass. It measures 4 inches in length and 1 inch in diameter. Despite a small accident on the handle, the microscope is in good original condition. Its eyepiece is equipped with two biconvex lenses giving high magnification when the plant, or transparent object, to be observed is placed against the second, larger lens.
