Paul Morchain (1876-1939) is a self-taught painter who began his career at the Artistes Français in 1906 where he obtained a gold medal in 1920 and was named painter of the navy in 1921. He is a regular at Douarnenez and Concarneau. He established himself as a major painter of the Cornish Country. His style is in the tradition of these local painters who seek the truth and the atmosphere of local life with sincerity. His works can be found in many museums in France, notably in Paris (at the Musée de la Marine), Bordeaux, Rochefort-sur-Mer and Douarnenez.
