Africa : “great Masaï Shield”
Africa: “Large Masaï shield”, painted buffalo skin on wooden frame and handle, 98 x 57 cm. Circa 1900/1920. Slightly powdery paint (washed?), slightly relaxed frame. Thanks to the precious book on shields from the Barbier-Mueller Collection, I found the origin of this spectacular shield. If I am not very fond of weapons, I like the shields that I buy regularly, their incredible variety making them a superb collectible theme and magnificent decorative objects...
