It was the most important element of the bride's trousseau, the so-called "wedding night cloth."
This sheet has been richly embroidered all over the reverse and on both pillowcases f.
The altered proportions of the characters and animals in relation to the landscape betray the "homemade" origin of this embroidery with its naive taste.
Another element which denotes that it is a trusseau "of a small bourgeois" is the fact that the sheet is made up of 3 strips of mixed linen fabric woven by hand and sewn together almost invisibly on full length.
The sheet and pillowcases have been washed to remove yellowing, the condition is very good because, I assume, very little use.
The sheet is very wide, around 3 meters, because double beds, in the 19th century, were higher compared to the ground.
The pillowcases, Italian, have a useful size for the pillow of 70x50 cm.
