Important and sumptuous solid silver tray by the goldsmith Martial Fray (1849-1875). The tray is made in a style of incomparable finesse, its stylized leaves and flowers which adorn it, seem to have been delicately placed on the rim and the handles, like a bas relief. The center of the tray is flanked by a monogrammed cartouche, richly surrounded by a superb engraving of scrolls and plumes of flowers generously covering the surface. The powerful lines and strong design are the strengths of this very large tray of exceptional density. Maintained manually in order to preserve the authenticity and quality of the engraving, it should be noted the presence of a few tiny micro-tips and micro-scratches from normal use. Saved from untimely polishing, this rare tray retains its character and patina, in the best conditions. French chic and elegance are affirmed in this model through this piece of goldwork with balanced and harmonious proportions. A large tea and coffee set. with its samovar would easily leave room for cups and saucers. Martial Fray is renowned for the perfection of his work, his aesthetics and his strength of drawing; he demonstrates it perfectly with this beautiful tray, also very high-end in density. An essential master goldsmith of 19th century civil silversmithing. Goldsmith's mark on the reverse of the tray, perfectly insculpted, head of Mercury 1st grade (950) (for export), on the reverse and on the border. Excellent conditions. Length including handles - Length with handles: 75 cm. / 29.53 in. Depth - Width: 19. 29 in. Solid silver weight - Sterling silver weight: 3,025 gr.
