Genre painter and landscape painter of the French school of Barbizon, student of Ernest Hébert (1817-1908) and Charles Jalabert (1819-1901), he began at the Salon of 1865. Then, his interest in landscapes was quickly recognized by criticism. His technique and style, although very personal, are close to Corot's late style of painting.
