Charming and very decorative Norman chest, with polychrome decoration,typical decoration of stylized foliage flowers around a bird, on an ocher background with borders highlighted in white.
Rouen trunk, wedding box, Normandy folk art, late 18th century / early 19th century.
In mesh beech, traditional assembly typical of Rouen "layetiers", rear and underside of the chest undecorated (as always on these old Norman chests).
Typical decor of the Fabrique Duval (1788 / 1820). Reference: publication of the Museum of Norman Traditions and Arts.
Lid grip ring and wire hinges, original wrought iron hasp and chamfered plate.
Good condition, pretty painted decor with slight partial wear from use (normal for these old chests).
Beautiful original patina. Note: old slight trace of ink on the cover.
