"Antique Fan “gardening And Gallantry”, Mother-of-pearl, Gouache On Silk, 18th C Circa 1780"
Louis XVI period fan in its original box. The leaf is made of skin, superbly painted with figures engaged in gardening work. In the center a young man has put down his rake and is planting flowers in a pot, probably to offer them to the young and pretty young lady next to him, who is looking at him with a shovel in hand. There are also freshly picked carrots and other vegetables. The scene is framed by a superb decor combining birds, flowers, foliage and a fountain. On the reverse, a shepherdess and her sheep. The frame is also exceptional, it is in finely carved burgundy, gold-plated mother-of-pearl. The fan measures approximately 11,02 inches long closed and 19,78 inches in diameter open. Sold in the original box. The fan is in very good condition. France, circa 1780.
