Louis XV Sideboard From The 18th Century Castle
A Louis XV period château suite of doors, crafted from molded and carved walnut, features an elegant façade with four paneled doors. Each door is adorned with richly carved spandrels decorated with asymmetrical shells and acanthus leaves in the Regency style, reflecting the stylistic transition between the solemnity of Louis XIV's reign and the full-blown Rococo fantasy of the mid-18th century.
The frame rests on gently curved and rounded uprights, emphasizing the sense of movement characteristic of Louis XV furniture. The lower rail, with its pronounced curves, is embellished in its center with a carved decoration of shells and finely executed acanthus scrolls. The sides are paneled in harmony with the façade.
The entire suite is supported by cabriole legs with openwork scrolls, delicately carved with foliage and acanthus leaves, lending this suite a great decorative elegance. The antique wrought iron fittings, handles, and keyhole escutcheons contribute fully to the authentic character of the piece. The locks are functional and come with their keys.
The interior opens to reveal storage spaces fitted with shelves. The back conceals a secret compartment with a lock (key missing), a rare detail that recalls the aristocratic origins of this piece of château furniture.
The walnut has a beautiful antique patina, highlighting the quality of the grain and the depth of the carvings. Some restorations, both recent and older, are visible and consistent with the age and condition of the piece.
This piece is a French provincial work from the 18th century, reflecting the craftsmanship of regional workshops during the reign of Louis XV. The piece is in excellent overall condition.
