A great classic of painting in Provence in the 19th century, Martigues and its typical hangings of fishing nets on the quay by this great specialist of the seaside in the 19th century Victor Coste.
The work in very good condition is offered in a channel frame which measures 46 cm by 38.5 cm and 33 cm by 25 cm for the panel alone.
It represents a fishing boat at the dock in Martigues near spread nets.
It is signed lower right.
A student of Dominique Magaud and Johanny Rave at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, then of François Barry, he participated in the Paris Salon from 1883 to 1896. He also exhibited at the Colonial Exhibition of 1906, specializing in marines.
His works are today kept at the Palais Longchamp, at the Granet Museum in Aix en Provence, at the Regards de Provence Foundation as well as at the Cassis Museum.
