(55x63.5cm with frame) Jean Denis Antoine Caucannier (c. 1860-1905/06) was a French painter. Born in Paris around 1860, Caucannier studied under the tutelage of Isidore Pils, Jules Frédéric Ballavoine and Jules Lefebvre. He specialized in painting portraits and genre scenes in oil. An example of the latter is “Young Woman with Wisteria,” which is now in a private collection. He exhibited several of his genre paintings at the Paris Salon between 1880 and 1905, including "La Femme de Potiphar" (Potiphar's Wife), "The Ant," and "The Spider." In 1883, he became a member of the Société des Artistes Français. Caucannier died in Paris in 1905 or 1906.
