Very Large 19th Century Box Or Casket In Agate And Pomponne; Hard Stone And Golden Brass. 19th

Superb large box in agate plate and pomponne mount, dating from the mid-19th century. It is much larger than the majority of boxes of this type that we usually see.

Rectangular in shape, the box is made up of six agate plates forming the side panels and two large plates for the bottom and the hinged lid.
The stone is red agate presenting a superb variety of colors from veined red to milky white through translucency with inclusions.

The frame is in pompom decorated with a pattern of fine waves.

The box rests on four ball feet in red agate

Superb object, in very good condition, with beautiful quality plates. It is rare to find such boxes in these dimensions.
