Saint John And Virgin Of Calvary In Oak – Flanders - Early 16th Century flag

Object description :

"Saint John And Virgin Of Calvary In Oak – Flanders - Early 16th Century"
Very pretty group of carved oak altarpieces illustrating Saint John and the Virgin of Calvary represented standing on a guilloché mound.
Saint John turns towards Mary in a gesture of comfort.
The Virgin stands with her hands crossed on her chest, her head slightly inclined towards the sky. His gaze appears soft and peaceful. She wears the veil and her coat falls to the front in cascades of moving folds down to the ground.
