Silver Teapot By Jean-baptiste Carron, Paris, 1779-1780

Artist: Carron
- Teapot
- Hammered, melted, chiselled silver and blackened wooden handle and fretel
- By Jean-Baptiste Carron, master silversmith from 1775 to 1806
- Paris, 1779-1780
- Size: 15 cm high; Weight (gross): 341g
- Very good condition, Interior grid removed with trace, some wear of the chiseled decoration.

- Silver teapot on a flat bottom. On the ovoid body slightly swollen in its upper part is fixed a small chute. The ogee lid edged with a moulding, without hinge, is cushioned by an exotic wood fretel reminiscent of the hold held by two cylindrical hoods. The body and the lid bear a finely chiseled decoration of rich drooping garlands of naturalistic flowers alternated with medallions held in place by large knots.

- Characteristic work from the end of the 18th century both in the form adopted and the decoration of garlands and cartouches held in place by large knots found in a good number of goldsmiths of the period: Robert-Joseph Auguste for the services of Russia such as that of Ekaterinoslav (Foelkersam, Tome I pl.39 ), Johann-Jacob Kirstein for the toilet service of the Princess of Deux-Ponts, or more simply by Louis-Joseph Milleraud-Bouty and Jean-Louis-Dieudonné Outrebon for a teapot from the Puiforcat collection (Faith Dennis, n°268)

- Hallmarks: Charge (under the body and in the lid): A crowned, charge for large silver works in Paris from November 18, 1774 to July 13, 1780 [1, n°486]; discharge (under the body, on the lid base): a monkey's head, for minor works of silver in Paris from November 18th, 1774 to July 13rd, 1780 [1, n°489]; Warden's mark (under the body and in the lid): crowned Q, mark in Paris from July 21st, 1779 to July 15th 1780 [1, n°502]; Countermark (under the body and on the lid base): a bona fide, countermark in Paris from July 13rd, 1780 to September 1782 [1, n°515]; Master goldsmith (twice under the body and in the cover): JFC crowned and a gun for symbol for Jean-François Carron, Parisian master silversmith received on December 16th, 1775. Active until at least 1806 [3, n°1229 & Nocq p. 223]
