"Pair Of Silver Basting Spoons By Barthélemy Rieumes, Toulouse, 1734"
- Pair of stew spoons
- Hammered and engraved silver
- By Barthélemy Rieumes, master silversmith from 1715 to 1760
- Toulouse, 1734 - Weight: 290g, length: 32 cm
- Very good condition
- Provenance: Sarpillon family, lord of Roure; exhibition at the Paul-Dupuy museum in 1988, cat. "Toulouse goldsmithing in the 18th century", n°56 (private collection)

- Pair of silver basting spoons, with a button with three moldings on the spoon. The long, thin spatula, strongly curved, bears the coat of arms engraved in a shield surrounded by acanthus leaves surmounted by a helmet with a tassel. Coat of arms: Argent to an oak torn off Vert acorned with Sable, for the Sarpillon family, lord of Roure (Provencal family)

- Rare pair of basting spoons of which few examples from the 1st third of the 18th century remain. The fact of being presented at the 1988 exhibition on Toulouse goldsmithery (No. 56 in the catalog) is a sign of their rarity. One element distinguishes them from the usual models, by a triple molding forming an attachment on the bowl. They are perfectly hallmarked, the coats of arms are of a high quality of engraving.

- Hallmarks (on the stem): Charge: M surmounted by a crowned fleur-de-lys, Toulouse, 1732-1738 [Helft, n°1131b]; Discharge: Coat of arms with three fleur-de-lys (arms of France (?), Toulouse, 1732-1738 [Helft, n°1130c']; Warden's mark: TOL with fleur-de-lis surmounting the letter K, Toulouse, 1734 [Helft, n° 1131a]; Master goldsmith: “B//RIEV//MES” surmounting a fleur-de-lys for Barthélemy Rieumes, master - goldsmith from November 24, 1715 until 1760 when he would have ceased his activity, he died in 1764
- Barthélémy Rieumes is one of the great Toulouse goldsmiths of the first half of the 18th century, producing high quality goldsmithery in a Regency style with some works by this goldsmith were presented in the exhibitions at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1936: a goblet under n°394 and a pair of snuffers under n°395 (perhaps that of the 1988 exhibition ( n°70)), a bowl dated 1733 with a radiant decoration of appliques was presented at Fraysse auction, Paris, on April 4, 2017 n°120.
