Sage-jubako - Portable Picnic Set, Japan, Edo Era, 19th Century.
Sage-jubako - Japanese portable picnic set consisting of stacked Jubako containers, a tray, an open container and two Tokkuri tin bottles. The set is made of wood covered with lacquer, including the makie-e technique of sprinkling metal powder on the uncured lacquer. The decorations feature free-form compositions of plants and flowers.
Japan, Edo era, 19th century.
Height 30.5 cm, length 31.5 cm, width 18 cm.
Good condition, slight rubbing, damage to one of the metal bottles.
