"My main concern is to paint this secret world that develops within me slowly and that I sometimes glimpse through a painting that would only have the will to be itself, with its weaknesses and its successes".
After winning the Prix de Rome for painting in 1965, Jean-Marc Lange moved to the Villa Medicis for three decisive years. In Italy, the artist met Balthus and immersed himself in an atmosphere that would be the subject of his painting forever. From the squares, terraces, gardens and seashores emanated an imagination that would continue to shape itself over time. Deeply contemplative, Jean-Marc Lange's painting is "an idea and an ideal".
