Ceiling study "Allegory" circa 1900, signed by Auguste Leroux (1871-1954). Auguste Leroux was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator active at the turn of the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th. Trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, he was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in 1892 and participated in the studio of Léon Bonnat. His considerable talent as a draftsman earned him several medals, culminating in the Prix de Rome, which he won in 1894. He exhibited at the Salon and the Universal Exhibition and distinguished himself as a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. The work of Auguste Leroux has been the subject of numerous studies, monographs, and exhibitions since the beginning of the 20th century.
