Secretaire from the Louis XVI period Stamped JB TUART in small print This piece of furniture has 5 drawers on the front and a flap inlaid with rosewood with a butterfly decoration and a frame with a lemon tree fillet. Jean Baptiste Tuart Cabinetmaker. Paris. His first productions are stamped: I.-B Tuart. This imprint is found on Louis XV style pieces. Under Louis XVI, the master made use of another iron printing: "J.-B Tuart" in smaller letters passed master in 1741 Jean Baptiste Tuart is still mentioned in 1767 and it is not known on what date he ceased to exercise his job. His son, who bears the same first name, worked with him for some time before settling in 1760 as a master table maker and merchant.
