Frame In gilded wood and ecru marie-louise.

Born in 1949, David Flitner graduated from the University of Arizona, then continued his training at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Realizing that his source of inspiration was the rugged, mineral beauty of the Southwest, he moved to Scottsdale, Maricopa County, Arizona. A founding member of the Arizona Central Backpackers Association, he traveled across Arizona for more than 15 years, easel on his back, acquiring a great knowledge of Arizona and its grandiose landscapes: the Grand Canyon, Sagaro National Park, Petrified Forest National Park. He surveys the mountains of red sandstone which contrast so much with the alpine forests of the center in an explosion of contrasting colors which inspire our painter so much. He explores the Sonoran Desert, in the south of the state. Arid territory, with valleys dug by torrents and rivers, it is dotted with cacti (the famous sagaros), yuccas and abounds with a multitude of animals and birds. And on the border with Utah, Monument Valley with its famous landscapes. David Flitner only paints in oil on canvas. He paints on the ground, during his hikes. He is attracted by contrasts, the play of shadows and lights, colors. He seeks a point of view with depth. His canvas always suggests more than just a landscape. She talks about the mysteries of the past that he likes to evoke. Our canvas, painted in 1984, when Dave Flitner was 35, is the very illustration of what painting means to him. A snowy landscape, where bare tree trunks bring a brown and warm touch that contrasts with the whiteness of the ground. In the background, tepees made of buffalo skins catch our eye and immediately plunge us into another era, no longer 1984 but 1884... Slender silhouettes of Indian women animate this peaceful scene that we can imagine contemplating while listening the music that John Barry composed for the film Dances with Wolves…
