Liquid vase in the shape of a parrot. In the Chimu culture, the parrot was associated with the notions of fertility and abundance. It is one of the many animals often depicted on ceramic vessels. The vase was made of pottery fired under oxygen-limited conditions, resulting in a black surface of the vase, which was then polished. Peru, Chimu culture, 10th-15th century.
