Object description :

"Exceptional Venetian State Bed Late Seventeenth Century"

Sumptuous ceremonial bed in polychrome carved wood alternating silvering, gilding and Venetian blue. The uprights with columns with twisted fluting with leafy capitals topped with fruit bowls and foliage. The fretted headboard is richly carved with garlands of flowers, fruits and foliage, all surmounted by large shells. The background is painted with women dressed in antique style, birds and architectural elements. In the center of a cartouche carved with ribbons and foliage, a love seated in a grove of roses.
