COLONIAL HELMET CALLED "TONKINESE" OF AN ARTILLERY SOLDIER ATTACHED TO THE SPAHIS, model 1886, Third Republic. Carcass in two parts, shell and edges, constructed from sheets of cork assembled and glued together, entirely covered with cachou cotton canvas. At the base of the bomb, bourdalou in identical canvas. Interior of the helmet lined with a dark green cotton canvas. Two-legged brass clips now and cork cleats and blackened leather sweatband, leather cut in the upper part for the passage of a drawstring. Two solid brass hooks for the maintenance of the chinstrap, the latter absent. Bomb pierced at the top with a ventilation hole, covered with a macaroon dressed in identical canvas. On the front, drawn in pencil with a five-pointed star surmounting a cross inscribed between two crossed guns at the bottom. Dimensions 67 x 77 mm France. Third Republic. Very good state of preservation.
