Watercolor By François Auguste Ravier

We present this superb watercolor by Auguste RAVIER the grand master of the Lyonnaise school born in 1814, died in 1895. Self-taught free artist. He did not study Fine Arts, no workshop, he was as he said himself, neither the pupil of...nor the son of...He was passionate about light and he painted until at dusk outdoors. He almost never exhibited during his lifetime and he didn't care about his market rating. Our work measures 33 x 24 cm, it is a beautiful watercolor on paper which comes from my personal collection. Thirty years ago or more, I had a proposal from a Lyon merchant at 45,000 Francs, or around 6,800 Euros. Our work is signed and dated 1880. We went out of curiosity on ARPRICE and we found prices for paintings sold between 3300 Euros at the hammer and 11000 Euros in 2021, therefore without the costs. Our watercolor we ask 8500 Euros and it will remain a firm and definitive price. (E23)
