This superb portrait attributed to Jan Mauritz Quinkhardt is to be compared (same colors fabrics in particular) of the portrait exhibited at the Rijksmuseum of Walter Senserff, director from 1731 of the Dutch East India Company (the model’s father?).

Jan Maurits Quinkhardt (1688; 1772)

Dutch painter born in Rees near Cleves in 1688, died in Amsterdam in 1772. Son of the painter Julius Quinkhardt who was his first master, he trained at the drawing academy in Amsterdam. He continued his training with Arnold Boonen, Christoffel Lubieniecki and Nicolas Verkolje. He worked in Utrecht and Amsterdam where he became a member of the guild. He enjoys a great reputation as a painter of portraits, which has earned him numerous commissions and achievements. He also paints with talent mythological and allegorical subjects. His painting is very appreciated for its harmonious compositions, its bright colors and its realistic style without forgetting its ability to represent the details and the texture of the fabrics as we can see in the portrait that we propose. His talent has also been rewarded with several awards. His works can be found today in many public and private collections around the world. (Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, National Gallery in London…)
