Sideboard / sideboard / buffet with 4 doors in the Brutalist / Op'Art style, designed in the 1970s by the Belgian furniture house De Coene Frères in Kortrijk, this production is sometimes attributed to the Belgian designer Emile Veranneman. Made of oak and blackened lacquered sandblasted oak forming an optical circle (typical of the brutalist era of the 70s). Composed of 4 doors including a storage 2 drawers in one of the doors (see photos) and shelves. The entire box is set back on a base covered with a thick sheet of brushed aluminium. In good condition, normal wear due to time and use. Interior dimensions of the two drawers: width 44.5cm, depth 35cm, height 10cm De Coene Frères (Courtrai): 1887 is the year in which the story of De Coene in Courtrai begins. During the interwar period, the company achieved international fame for producing high-quality wooden Art Deco furniture. Based on the Arts and Crafts philosophy, the company will call upon great artists and architects, in particular the painter Albert Saverys. Besides the individual sale of furniture to the wealthy bourgeoisie, the company is also responsible for bespoke furnishings for restaurants, hotels, casinos, trains, banks and other large institutions. Orders from abroad (France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom) flowed in and the company became one of the most important furniture manufacturers in Belgium and its notoriety then became international. We will also note a mass production from 1929, up to 1000 radio cabinets per day are produced for Philips Eindhoven. At the end of the 1930s, more than 3,000 people were employed in the various departments. The company is still in business today...
