Egyptian Revival Inkwell Clock, Eugène Cornu, 19th Century

A bronze clock and inkwell with a double patina, in the Egyptian Revival style. The movement features an onyx dial surmounted by a pharaoh's head and flanked by an eagle on each side. The clock rests on two seated sphinxes. Signed on the base: E. Cornu, 24 Boulevard des Italiens.
Eugène Cornu (1827-1899) was a sculptor and draftsman. Some of his works were awarded prizes at the Universal Exhibitions in London in 1861, 1862, and 1872. He also participated in the 1867 Paris Universal Exhibition, where he received a gold medal. He became director of the Algerian Onyx Company around 1873. Period: second half of the 19th century.
