Poppies By Pierre Anfosso 1928-2004 Oil on canvas 55cm x 46cm plus frame 63cm x 52cm signed lower left and dated 56 Pierre Anfosso (December 1, 1928 in La Crau - November 5, 2004 in Hyères) is a French painter. Pierre Anfosso was born in 1928 near Toulon, in the Var. After secondary studies and a scientific baccalaureate, he entered the School of Fine Arts in Toulon in 1948, to study architecture there, then became a pupil of the painters Eugène Baboulène and Henri Pertus, and discovered Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard and Jean Pougny. In 1950, with classmates from the school: Gilbert Louage, Jacques Burois, Monique Ducreux, Monique Roy and Lucien Long, he created the Group 50 which exhibited at the Toulon gallery "La Palette", at the Museum of Fine Arts in Toulon , at the Biennial of Menton and at the exhibition of Young Mediterranean Painting. In the years that followed, he took part in numerous group or personal exhibitions and received several painting prizes. Over the decades, his inspirations will go in particular to De Staël and Rothko. From the 1960s, he was also interested in irises, first as a passion, then by creating with Monique, his wife, the Iris nursery in Provence in 1974, joined by his children who will take over.
