Beautiful Russian icon of Christ "Pantocrator" meaning "Almighty" in Greek.It dates from the middle of the 19th century -- around 1840/1860 -- and comes from the Volga region in Russia.
Christ, represented in bust, blesses with the right hand and holds the Gospel in the other hand.
Byzantine style, this icon is delicately painted with tempera in deep and warm tones on a wooden panel.
The halo of Christ is gilded with gold leaf and his clothes are also enhanced with gold.
Beautiful and gentle face of Christ expressing mercy and compassion.
The icon is further enriched with a silver pated brass cover -- called oklad in Russian.
Very good general state of preservation. Cracks and wear of time.
