17th Century, Putti Reggicero
17th century
Putti reggicero
(2) Wood, Alt. 48 cm
Pair of cherubs finely carved in dark walnut wood: they hold heraldic coats of arms centered by a rampant lion and rest on a rocky base. With fluid movements they hold a basket over the head that serves as a base for the candle. The specular and serpentine pose, with the lower limbs bent to support the coat of arms, denotes a deep sense of the knowledge of statuary and the achievement of a real and truthful naturalism.
