"Sumène Wardrobe 17th Century Period"
Magnificent Wardrobe De Sumène In Walnut Wood From The 17th Century. Model with twelve richly carved panels decorated with fruit baskets, doves and cherubs in the upper part, and floral motifs for the lower parts. The upper crosspiece features a frieze of acanthus windings, scrolls and flowers and two cupids carved in the round supporting a very beautiful shell in high relief. The uprights and the frame decorated with heads of winged angels in the upper part on either side and masks with a strong grimace, (sculptures which had the function of keeping evil spirits away so that they do not enter the house ), finished with fruit falls symbolizing abundance, we again find a mascaron head in the center of the frame with its mouth open with its keyhole. Its large broken pediment is pierced with acanthus windings, decorated with foliage, cupids on either side surmounted by chimeras, with in its center a female figure adorned with drapes standing under an arcade, surmounted by garlands fruit and foliage. Languedoc furniture, mid-17th century period (circa 1650). Furniture completely original including its key and lock. All small usual restorations.
