Haute Epoque
Stunning and Museum very large 15th cty religious painting Tempera on panel The Adoration Of The Magi, attributed by a brass plaque at the bottom of the gilded wooden frame to an anonymous master from the city of Burgos, Northern Spain, Castile and Leon area. The large panel is reinforced on the back by an important parquet floor and framed by a relief surround (creating a perspective) consisting of 2 lateral pilasters, and Gothic windows surmounted by 11 gilded wood pinnacles.

Late 15th or early 16th century.
The Flemish Masters influence is evident here. Perspective work  is still hesitant and relatively clumsy; please note the important care attached to the faces, looks and expressions, and to the embroidered fabric of the mantle worn by the Virgin and Child.

Very large dimensions, 138cm height and 113cm width (8cm thickness)

This historiated thema come from "the Gospel of Matthew, which indicates that the Eastern Magi, having followed a star, came to Bethlehem to worship the newborn king of the Jews, and offered him gold, myrrh and frankincense. In the West, the number of Magi, after many variations, was fixed at three.
They were soon associated with symbols and, late 15th cty century, they ended up representing the three continents known in medieval period (Asia, Africa and Europe), after having represented the three ages of life from the 12th century onwards. Note remember that gold, brought by Melchior, is associated with earthly power, frankincense is linked to religious rituals, to the sacred character of the Child, myrrh, associated with embalming, and therefore with death, the Passion and the Resurrection of Christ."

Condition: Very nice restoration (especially wooden cracks), and light uplift in the lower part of the trellis (linen?) on which is fixed the tempera and then the gilding; One of the gilded wooden pinnacles (original) has been glued back.
Very good general condition, especially considering its period and sizes.
