"China Early XXth : "opium Pipe I""
China early 20th century : “Opium pipe”, celadon enamelled porcelain, copper and brass 16 X 7 cm in diameter, maximum height with removable spout 34 cm. Well complete with the beak, the attachment hook and the rod used to take the burning opium ball, fixed by a chain to a butterfly-shaped rivet. The smoke from the combustion of the opium, deposited in the center of the receptacle, protected from drafts by the oversized edge, was cooled by the water contained in the pipe before being inhaled by the smoker. The terrible opium trade led to a Sino-Western war known as the Boxer Rebellion. Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone.
