Nothing could be more modest than a bell jar placed on a plate to protect a piece of cheese… Not so easy, however, to reproduce this seemingly uneventful subject on the canvas within a very rich corpus of still lifes. It was first necessary to point out the presence of the transparent accessory, with just a few well-placed reflections, and then the smoothness of the cheese, this piece of bravery gained in poetry, even in nobility.
