Jules Frederic Ballavoine was a 19th-century French painter known for his still lifes and portraits, particularly of beautiful young women. He was a technical draftsman by training then was received at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under the direction of the historical painter Isidore Alexandre Augustin Pils. Ballavoine began at the Salon of 1877, and exhibited at the Salon throughout his career. At the Paris Salon of 1886, he received a medal for "The interrupted session"; throughout his career he was critically acclaimed for his delicate still lifes, portraits, Parisian street scenes and historical genre paintings.
