Object description :

"Oil On Canvas Early Nineteenth - Follower Of Jb Greuze"
Oil on canvas from the early 19th century. Revival of the painting by Jean Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805) entitled “Innocence” executed in 1790 and exhibited at The Wallace Collection in London. The scene represents a young woman and a lamb. “In addition to its religious connotations, the lamb in Western art is considered an attribute of innocence, meekness, patience and humility. By representing a lamb, Greuze therefore invests his charming model with the same qualities. These representations of young women cuddling animals, and thus suggesting their sensitivity, refer to the cult devoted to emotion in the eighteenth century by Rousseau and others. Greuze's heroine therefore appears to possess the intoxicating combination of sexual innocence and emotional depth. "(Wallace Collection Notice) The canvas bears the words" Jérôme Delorme - 1813 "on the back Dimensions of the frame: L 52.5 x H 62.5 - HST only: L 46 x H 56 Discover all the items for sale on: antiquitesdelandelle.com
