"Painting - Oil On Canvas - Gaston Larrieu"
Oil on canvas signed Gaston Larrieu (1908-1983). Landais painter of neo-cubist influence, he met René-Marie Castaing, became friends with André Lhote and Pierre Benoit. Noticed by the art critic Max Vignon in 1951, this allowed him to acquire notoriety by organizing an exhibition of his paintings in Paris. The Carmine, Bignou, Colette Dubois, Charpentier and Romanet galleries exhibited a large number of his works thus ensuring him a growing success with the public. Some paintings are visible at the Despiau-Wlérick museum in Mont-de-Marsan (40192). The ornate frame, gilded with leaf is in very good original condition. A fragment of a label is stuck on the back with the indication: '' G. Larrieu ... Charpentier ... Moulin dans ... Landes ''.
