China or Vietnam, end of the XIXth century - beginning of the XXth century, very pretty statue in gold lacquered wood representing Wei Tuo, Mahayana bodhisattva considered as a devoted guardian of the monasteries who protects the teachings of Buddhism. Commonly known as the “temple guardian”, this figure is often placed opposite or next to the main sanctuary. The small attachment on the back testifies to its destination to be presented on an altar. Good quality work. Height 31 cm. Good condition except for slight wear and an old restoration on the right foot, without affecting the beautiful aesthetic.
