This drawing, which shows us a man dressed in the oriental style, in slippers, turban and kaftan, a long pipe in his hand, posing in front of other characters and a mihrab.
An indefatigable traveler, Achille Fouquier brought back sketches, anecdotes and observations from his many trips, collected in several books that were published. Whether from the Basque Country (he was mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz), Italy, Greece, the Balkans or the Middle East, his drawings taken from life are testimony to the history of these regions
