Object description :

"Officer's Travel Clock Called Capucine Empire Period Around 1800."
Capucine clock from the Empire period circa 1800, this travel clock is the ancestor of the Officer's clocks. Rectangular quadrilateral in the form of a polished brass cage, it opens with two side doors revealing the movement and a rear door revealing the escapement. In the upper part, our Capucine is equipped with a small dial in the middle part allowing, thanks to a small key, to adjust the advance and the delay; this is symbolized by the letters A and an R appearing on parts and others of the dial. Each of the angles is flanked by small coils called jigs, in the center the gong is topped with a removable handle in the form of rings to facilitate its movement. The white enamel dial marked with Roman numerals is signed by Espagnac à Toulouse. The Brequet needles with eccentric apples are accompanied by a third straight line devoted to the alarm clock. The dial is enclosed in a gilded bronze bezel encircled with chiseled pearls, lotus leaves and bundles. The set rests on four spinner feet. Our nasturtium is also provided with a brass movement; he strikes the hours and halves in passing. The mechanism operates without delay doubling the time repeating on demand as well as an alarm clock. It also has ringing on demand, alarm clock and eight day snooze. This is armed by pulling on the pull cord handle located on the top, on the right side door is the bell reminder button on demand. It has a vertical balance with silk threads that could be easily removed to facilitate transport. Our capicine is provided with its two original keys. Note a slight hair at the base of the dial. The mechanism has been revised by its former owner. A little nod to history Napoleon offered this clock to each of his officers so that they were on time. Dimensions: Height 29cm, Width 11.5cm, Depth 8.7cm.
