Born in TOURS in 1907, died in 1999, Gaston FONTAINE is an Africanist and orientalist artist listed in the book of Lynne THORNTON "Africanist painters" .. He made three trips to Africa in 1937, 1938 and 1948 in Senegal. and in GUINEA. He exhibited at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1940 in the fine arts section of the show of FRANCE from overseas.
