"Greek Independence Goose Game, Metz: Paulin Didion, V. 1855"
Metz: Paulin Didion, c. 1855. 370 x 500mm. Original fabric hinge; Back lined with Green embossed paper. A  rare game of goose celebrating the "renewal of the Greeks", after the war of independence. It consists of 62 illustrated boxes spiraling counter-clockwise, with a final space, the number 63, enriched with an illustration of four characters celebrating the independence of their country. Corners are illustrated of vignettes: family playing the goose game, a goose breeder, and two goose hunting scenes.
Text in French on middle. Game of the goose. Renewed from the Greeks. circa 1855. Some wear, creases on back; still white paper, still fresh polychromy, gold highlights everywhere, a nice game, not to be confused with many much more popular editions.
