Antique Kashan Rug, 136 X 208 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool And Silk, Persia, (iran) Mid-19th Century

Rare old collectible Kashan, hand-knotted in wool and silk from the mid-19th century with architectural decoration, 136 cm wide by 208 cm long.
The central motif with two pendants draws a large blooming stylized flower, surrounded by other numerous flowers and tracery covering the brick-colored field.
The border composed of cartridges alternating bouquets of roses and peonies with palace decorations.
The whole of this piece is in very good collector's condition, the velvet clean, the edges impeccable, the fringes short.
The general condition is very good, there is no pile reduction, the fine wool and silk used are of first quality.
The colors are fresh without loss of tint and not insolated. Superb collector's rug, the Kashan are particularly rare with this type of decor.
Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran. During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendour.
Carpets with fine weaving, of a very great richness of composition, were knotted by the royal factory of the Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The revival of rug production began with rugs that are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance.
These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century.
The decorations are varied and offer meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant decor, trees of life. Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and designs, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian rugs.
